Intranet
/ Extranet Solutions:
What is an Intranet ?
It is closed organisation wide network to which users have access to a single,
central data source and suite of business applications.
This ensures standardisation throughout the organisation and consolidates all
data into a single one interchangeable data source. This ensures that the accounts
package can communicate with the client relationship manager so front line staff
know what's been paid and what's not, and and the quotes package can talk to
the stock control manager to see what's in stock and calculate how much a project
will cost to produce.
This seemless integration of applications ensures your company software remains
100% scaleable to grow with your business.
What is an Extranet ?
An Extranet is identical to an Intranet with the one exception that people from
outside the organisation can gain access to just some of the information stored
within the organinisation's Intranet data source. An example might be an online
merchant that allows users to view products, prices and stock levels that are
hosted on the parent company's Intranet that would also have integrated it's
own private accounts package, suppliers lists and employee databases etc. Alternatively
an engineering company may want to allow a third party client securely gain
access to view the progress of a particular job, but clearly deny that client
access to all the company data that needs to remain private.
What's so Good about Intranets & Extranets ?
- They're infinitely scaleable to grow with your organisation.
- Centralises your tools and databases so that applications can seamlessly
exchange information with each other through a common data source.
- Being browser based, users are familiar with their navigation and need little
or no time to train.
- Networkable both locally and globally using standard Internet protocols.
